Work Package 6: Philosophical and societal challenges of quantum theory and technologies
Coordinator: Pr. Stéphanie Ruphy Stephanie.firstname.lastname@example.org
This work package aims at exploring philosophical questions raised by the quantum world as well as developing joint reflection between scientists, social scientists and philosophers on potential societal challenges raised by these emerging technologies, on delimitation of scientific responsibility and on inclusion of societal expectations during the whole research and innovation process.
The PhD project at the interface physics/philosophy should be co-supervised by a physicist and a philosopher; the PhD project on the ‘science and society” aspects should be embarked in or in close association with a physics laboratory.
A few topics to investigate
This list is revisable, non-exhaustive and must be completed by the brain-storms and further reflexions by the SHS/QuEnG community.
- Quantum ontology
- Quantum causality
- Quantum thermodynamics
‘Science and society’ aspects:
- Social analysis of the endogenisation by scientists and engineers of problems of use
- New forms of communication
- Possible forms of inclusion of society’s expectations in scientific and technological choice processes
