There is an urgent need for better amplifiers in the microwave range, for
applications including the readout of arrays of qubits, microwave quantum optics, and quantum sensors. Recent work from Grenoble groups has highlighted the strong potential of Josephson based parametric amplifiers in this context.
Another goal of this WP is to develop novel ultrasensitive field sensors based on hybrid opto-mechanical devices. Below are some examples of topics to investigate within a PhD project.

• Amplifiers operating close to the quantum limit, e.g. parametric amplifiers based on Josephson junctions
• Ultrasensitive field sensors based on a single quantum system (1 spin, 1 quantum dot…) in a nanomechanical oscillator.
• Sensors enhanced by quantum effects such as entanglement
